I was born at Sen Sen a village to the north of Eretz, outside
the Gaza Strip. When I came to live in Khan Younis with my family
I was only three months old. My father was klled in the war of
1948 and we were expelled to the Gaza Strip and came to live in
Khan Younis. Today we live here in this shack made of corrugated
iron with a sand floor because they bombed our house.
My son Muhammad was married and used to go to work in Israel as
a farm labourer or brick layer, he was the one who kept our family.
When he died he left two sons, one three years old and one of
three months born after his death.
I did not know anything about his activity in the armed resistance.
One evening Muhammad told me he was going to a wedding with his
friends, Shadi and Ahmed.
Later that night someone came to tell me that Muhammad had died
in a gun battle with Israeli soldiers, then another came and told
me he had been wounded.
Then his brothers came and confirmed he was dead.
The next day they brought the body of Muhammad home and I could
see him and give him a kiss for the last time.
Now we are without him and my two sons don't work and there is
no one to help us to carry on. The PNA (Palestinian National Army)
gives us a small war pension but it is not enough, UNRWA also
gives us 120 kilos of flour every year but it not enough to live
on.
My husband died during the first Intifada and I was left with
two daughters and four sons, including Muhammad who was the youngest,
he was twelve when his father died and after eleven years he too
is dead always because of the Israelis.
The soldiers stole my father even before I was born and then they
killed my husband and now my son. They bombed the house forcing
me to live in this corrugated iron shack, how can I want peace?
The ]sraelis kill everything that is Palestinian, animals, trees,
houses, people and many of our sons have lost their fathers. That's
the reason why they go to fight and no one can stop them.
We love peace but as long as Sharon is the government there will
be no peace.
Greetings,
Maurizio
