CAMPAIGN "HELP US TO OPEN PEACE EMBASSIES AND KEEP THEM OPEN!!"

Peace embassies are a useful tool to oppose war, elaborated by a section of the pacifist world, which we are trying to use together. Living side by side with peoples under threat of war and violence leads to a better understanding of those realities. This makes it possible to work out together, in mutual cooperation and equality, those methods of help and intervention which may be needed.

Our goal is first to prevent a war, or try to stop later or work after for reconciliation between the peoples. Our common interest is to erase from the planet the war, which drains resources from everybody's life, suffocating the spirit of truth and preventing peoples' democratic development.

We, Berretti Bianchi - White Berets - Beli Beretka, together with Campagna per una Risoluzione Nonviolenta nel Kosovo (Campaign for a Nonviolent Resolution in Kosovo-Metohija), with Campagna Nazionale OSM-DPN (National Campaign for Conscientious Objection to Military Expenses and for Nonviolent Popular Defence) and with the support of the Association Gandhi in Action, opened a Peace Embassy in Belgrade on 27 July 1999.

Our first ambassadors have been Prof. Riccardo Luccio of Florence University and his wife Gabriella
Farabegoli. After them the Peace Embassy has been staffed by Francesca Vitale, then by
Maurizio Renesto and now by Rolando Cecconi, with the temporary cooperation of Angelo
Gandolfi.

The current address of our office in Belgrade is:

The opening of the Peace Embassy was made on request and in cooperation and coordination with the local NGOs and it works following the guidelines indicated by them.
In practice, its activity endeavours:

  1. to keep communication open between people just emerging from war or still living under a regime of violence. Because of this, the embassy in Belgrade is in constant contact with its counterpart in Pristina, opened by the Kosovo Campaign, with which we collaborate;

  2. to help the democratic process by methods and ways of reconciliation, also bringing humanitarian help to the refugees and people in general;

  3. to bring about twinnings between towns in Serbia and in Kosovo and towns in Italy (and other countries), with the goal of developing, wherever possible, centres of local democracy;

  4. to bring about twinnings between towns in Serbia and in Kosovo and towns in Italy (and other countries), with the objective of developing, wherever possible, centres of local democracy.

HELP US TO KEEP ALIVE AN INSTRUMENT
TO STRUGGLE AGAINST WAR AND VIOLENCE,
TO DEFEND TRUTH AND DEMOCRACY

We need 24 million It. lire to ensure
one year of life to the Peace Embassy in Belgrade

In this moment, the importance of the Peace Embassy in Belgrade rests on the necessity of building a process of reconciliation, by developing, in particular, contacts between the Serbian community and the Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija and keeping open channels of dialogue, communication and comparison between the various populations of Serbia, Macedonia, Kosovo, Zrna Gora-Montenegro, with the essential aim of preventing new explosions of violence.
