Comboni Missionaries


More than 3,700 people, among priests, brothers, sisters and catholics lay people, form the Comboni Missionaries group, mens and womens dedicated to announcing the Gospel, present today in 44 countries.

The goup was founded in 1870 by missionary Daniel Comboni (1831-1881), native of Limone sul Garda (Brescia, Italy).
He had widespread knowledge of the peoples of the Central Africa, was committed to the struggle against slavery, promoter of formations centers for africans, and was the first Bishop of Khartum (Sudan).

The Comboni Missionaries arrives in Brazil in 1952, first in Espirito Santo and Maranhão, and are now present in various States. They work in pastoral areas in the interior and in the periphery of large cities

The choice to work in Salvador was made in 1980, as part of the concern to accompany the situation and the struggle of the black population against racism and for ethnical and cultural identity.
