The state has seven stations:

The state with the largest number of nests of the Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), considered the most endangered species in the world. Bahia is also where the greatest concentration of the Loggerhead (Caretta caretta) is found on the Brazilian coast. The other three species are found in small numbers.

It was set up in 1991 to protect 12 miles (20 kilometers) of the feeding area of the Green turtle(Chelonia mydas).

It has the last nesting sites of the Leatherback turtle (Dermochelys coriacea), the most endangered species in Brazil. Loggerhead (Caretta caretta), Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green (Chelonia mydas), and Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea) may also be found there.

TAMAR has operated in the archipelago, which is 200 miles (320 kilometers) off the coast, since 1984. It is the breeding ground of the Green species (Chelonia mydas) and the feeding area for the Hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata).


RIO DE JANEIRO

On the northern coast of the state includes 33 miles (53 kilometers) of beaches. The loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) is the only one that nests in the area. In the 94/95 nesting season, 49 albino turtles were born there.

It is 144 miles (230 kilometers) from Natal, and comprises two small islands (Cemitério and Farol). The Green turtle (Chelonia mydas) lays its eggs there; it also houses young Hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata). Like the National Marine Park of Fernando de Noronha, it is extremely important for the study of sea turtle bioecology.

Along 62 miles (100 kilometers) of coast and several islands, TAMAR protects the following species: Loggerhead (Caretta caretta), Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea), Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea), Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Green (Chelonia mydas); the latter is the most numerous in the region. There is no nesting at Ubatuba area.

Abaís and Ponta dos Mangues.

The coast of the state of Sergipe has the greatest known concentration of nests of the Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea); Loggerhead (Caretta caretta), Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata) and Green (Chelonia mydas) may also be found there.
