BUKAVU: DIRECTOR AND JOURNALIST OF RADIO MAENDELEO ARRESTED

Eight members of the civil society, including the Director, Kizito Mushizi,
and a journalist, Omba Kamengele, of the local Radio Maendeleo, were
arrested yesterday afternoon in Bukavu (South Kivu, Democratic Republic of
Congo).
According to our MISNA sources, the eight were arrested on return from the
General Assembly of Non-governmental Organisations (NGO), held in the
administrative centre of South Kivu.
Three of the eight arrested, by the security forces of the ANR (National
Information Agency), have already been released.
Though the two representatives of Radio Maendeleo are among the 5 still
detained.
The radio station, owned by local NGO's, has for some time been subjected
to threats and acts of repression by authorities of the RCD (Congolese
Rally for Democracy).
An anti-President Laurent Desire' Kabila force, in the region composed
predominantly of Rwandan troops, that controls South Kivu.
