Summit On DRC Conflict Now After Christmas

LUSAKA, Zambia (PANA) - Zambian President Frederick Chiluba announced Wednesday
that the on-off summit in Lusaka to resolve the current conflict in the
Democratic Republic of Congo would now be held from 27-28 December.
He said that this week's meeting failed to materialise because several presidents who were to participate, including OAU Secretary-General Salim Ahmed Salim, had conflicting schedules.
The president made the announcement shortly before his departure for Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for the OAU conflict resolution meeting, also expected to discuss the DRC war.
Chiluba told reporters Africa did not have the resources to waste on wars and urged warring parties in various parts of the continent to resolve their differences peacefully.
The Ouagadougou summit is also discuss the Eritrea-Ethiopia border dispute and other trouble spots on the continent.
