RCD Backs Kabila Move
January 9, 1999
Bukavu - Rebels fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo on Friday welcomed
a surprise offer by President Laurent Kabila to hold direct talks but declined
to say if they would accept.
"If the offer is genuine, it is very good," rebel chief Ernest Wamba dia Wamba told Reuters by satellite phone from the eastern town of Goma.
"He understands that we exist and that there is no other way to solve the conflict except by talking to us," he said.
