CEBs / BCCs
Life and Hope among the Masses

The vitality of the Basic Christian Communities (CEBs/BCCs) demands that there be significant moments for evaluation, reflection on their own reality and celebration of God's action in their life. Up to now there have been eight interecclesial conferences. The next is just around the corner and is currently in the thick of preparations. The “train” set out from Santa Maria (State of Rio Grande do Sul) in 1992, headed in the direction of São Luís in Maranhão, where it is due to arrive in 1997.

The Basic Christian Communities come to be “Life and Hope” among the masses in this huge, empoverished Brazil, starving for God's truth, justice, love and life.

Illumined and strenthened with the bread of the word and with the bread of life, the CEBs/BCCs evangelize, encourage the faith to grow and mature, and help the people become aware of their human dignity. They encourage people to participate in the construction of a just and simpathetic society at the “service of life and of hope, in different cultures, on the way to the definitive kingdom”.

bishop of diocese of Amargosa (State of Bahia)
