FUNDIPESCA began in March of 1982. Its founding members are persons from Bahian civil society. FUNDIPESCA stems from the University Marian Solidaty and has inherited its methodology, its various analyses of fishing communities, its idealism and spirit of voluntary work. Many of its unconditioned volunteers are former students of the Colégio Antônio Vieira (CAV).

FUNDIPESCA has a world of possibilities before itself. Formerly, because of difficulties inherent to the Northern Cosatline (poor areas, without electric lighting, lacking water, education, health, fixed work...) the models were doubtful. Today, FUNDIPESCA has models of development which are proven and successful. Financial resources are the only thing lacking in order to end hunger along the Northern Coastline in a manner both human and worthy of the worker.

FUNDIPESCA works in six sectors, because of methodology. These are: education, health, production, social aspects, environment and juridical assistance.

SECTORS:

The Education sector only works with pre-school, adult alphabetization and rural extension courses.


The Health sector works with preventive medicine, (assistance when necessary) and endemic diseases.


The Production sector works only where the area and the community offer proper conditions.


The Social sector organizes communities in associations, teaching them to defend their rights and assume their obligations.


The Environmental sector shows how to monitor the environment.

The Juridical Assistance sector treasts of land problems, which are many along the Northern Coastline.
