HISTORY

BAGUNÇAÇO began when a a local resident, Joselito Crispim Assis, working then as a youth officer/educator with children’s services, realized the importance of the spontaneous tin can music that the children made in the streets. Local residents typically reacted negatively to this "music", viewing it as noise. His idea was to organize the sweet sounding mess (bagunça) made by these groups of children and eventually to recruit the support of the community. The work quickly gained community support as the youth’s behavior changed. Today many parents recognize the importance of the group and have seen their children gain self-esteem through the work.
